Binary and the Broken Line
在中国古老的《周易》中,阴为断线,阳为实线。这些简单的线条——断与不断——组合成六十四卦,每一卦都述说着变化的故事。几千年后,二进制代码成为了机器世界的基本语言:0或1,通或断。
对西方视角而言,这或许只是巧合。但其中的回响令人惊异——一个源自卜筮的系统,竟与数字计算的根本逻辑如此贴近。如今,这些二进制的开关不只是用来计算:它们能模拟思维、生成图像、预测偏好,甚至与我们对话。我们今天所称的“人工智能”,其本质依然是1与0的排列组合——而这呼吸之间,依然带着阴阳的节奏。
然而,卦象不是开与关的开关,而是时间中流转的过程,是对立中共舞的节奏。《易经》的智慧,不在于选择阴或阳,而在于洞察它们的转化——如何从一种状态变为另一种,再回归。
我们的机器能否学会承载这种转化?人工智能是否能理解的不只是逻辑,而是那种“矛盾而生”的生命韵律?
In the ancient Chinese system of the I Ching, yin is represented by a broken line, and yang by a solid one. These simple marks, broken or unbroken, combine into patterns called Gua (hexagrams), each telling a story of change. Thousands of years later, binary code would come to shape the logic of our machines: 0 or 1, on or off.
To Western eyes, this might seem like coincidence. But there is something uncanny in the echo—how a system born of divination mirrors the very foundation of digital computation. Today, these binary switches do more than calculate: they simulate thought, generate images, predict our preferences, and converse with us. What we now call artificial intelligence is, at its core, a system of ones and zeroes—its breath rising from the same rhythm of duality.
But a hexagram is not merely a switch. It is a flow, a movement across time, a dance between opposites. In the I Ching, wisdom lies not in choosing yin or yang, but in recognizing their turning—how one becomes the other, and back again.
Can our machines ever learn to hold this? Can artificial intelligence grasp not just logic, but the rhythm of living contradiction?
